Engineering Brief

The MIFARE Plus EV1 is a high-security contactless smart card IC operating at 13.56 MHz and fully compliant with ISO/IEC 14443-A. It offers 2 kB or 4 kB EEPROM with AES-128 cryptography for authentication, data encryption, and integrity protection, supporting seamless migration from legacy MIFARE Classic (CRYPTO1) infrastructure via three security levels (SL0, SL1, SL3). Advanced features include ECC-based originality signature, Transaction MAC for fraud prevention, virtual card architecture for multi-application use (e.g., mobile NFC), proximity check against relay attacks, and both native and ISO/IEC 7816-4 APDU command modes. The chip is available in module (MOA4, MOB6) and wafer form factors with 17 pF or 70 pF antenna capacitance options, targeting high-security transit, access, and payment applications.

Typical Applications

  • Public transportation ticketing
  • Access management and physical access control
  • Electronic toll collection
  • Loyalty programs and micro-payment
  • Secure mobile NFC applications (virtual card architecture)
  • Multi-application smart cards with migration from MIFARE Classic
