Engineering Brief

The MIFARE Ultralight EV1 (MF0ULx1) is NXP's enhanced ISO/IEC 14443-A ticketing IC succeeding the original Ultralight with backward compatibility. It features two memory variants (MF0UL11 with 384 bits user memory, MF0UL21 with 1024 bits), three independent 24-bit one-way counters with anti-tearing support, and ECC-based originality signature for silicon authenticity verification. Security includes optional 32-bit password protection with configurable write or read/write access control and negative authentication attempt limiting. Fast transaction times (<35 ms typical, <10 ms for counter operations), 10-year data retention, and 100,000 write cycles (1,000,000 for counters) make it ideal for disposable or limited-use contactless ticketing in public transport, events, and loyalty programs.

Typical Applications

  • Public transportation single-trip and limited-use ticketing
  • Event ticketing and day passes
  • Loyalty cards and promotional applications
  • NFC-enabled mobile ticketing
  • Thin flexible card (TFC.0/TFC.1) implementations
  • Contactless paper ticket replacement
