Engineering Brief
The NTAG213/215/216 family comprises NFC Forum Type 2 Tag compliant ICs from NXP designed for mass-market contactless applications at 13.56 MHz. They offer three memory variants (144, 504, or 888 bytes of user memory) with 106 kbit/s data rate, all featuring a 50 pF input capacitance optimized for small antenna designs. Security includes ECC-based originality signatures for authentication, 32-bit password protection with configurable access control, and static/dynamic memory locking. Advanced features include a 24-bit NFC counter, UID and counter ASCII mirroring for dynamic NDEF content, and FAST_READ for efficient production workflows, making them ideal for smart advertising, product authentication, and IoT applications.
Typical Applications
- Smart advertisement (NFC posters, print media)
- Product authentication and anti-counterfeiting
- Bluetooth/Wi-Fi pairing and connection handover
- Electronic shelf labels and retail applications
- Gaming cards and mobile companion tags
- Business cards and vouchers
